There will be plenty of dirt flying on four different sites owned by the Humboldt Community School District in 2017 – but it will be in the name of progress.
In last week’s regular monthly meeting of the Humboldt School Board on Jan. 18, Humboldt School Superintendent Greg Darling updated the board on construction projects slated to take place this year.
Ground breaking is expected to take place in the spring for the new Kiddie Cats Community Day Care center, which will be built on the north end of the Mease administrative building in Dakota City.
Ground breaking will also take place this year on the addition and renovation project at Taft Elementary School in Humboldt. Additional classroom space will be built in the center, open area at Taft, east of the north-south center wing.
The district will also be building a new all-weather running track at the high school. The current track, in place since 1983, will be completely rebuilt with a new base and synthetic track on top.
Another project will be the demolition of the eastern two-thirds of the vacated middle school building, which is located west of Taft Elementary.
