Quilt of Valor presented to Kinseth

Area quilter Nancy Wiuff (left) made a beautiful and patriotic quilt for Bode’s Arlis Kinseth (right), which was presented last Thursday, just in time for Arlis’s 91st birthday on Sunday, March 12. The quilt was part of the Quilts of Valor project, a nationwide volunteer effort to honor veterans. Submitted photo by James Borlaug.

A Quilt of Valor, an honor of his military service and his longtime community service, was presented to Bode's Arlis Kinseth last week.
Arlis is an Army combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He fought in France, Austria and Germany in World War II, and managed to avoid being wounded, he says. But then in Korea, he was hit twice. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his service.
Presenting the quilt to Arlis was Russell Jensen, adjutant of the Bode American Legion Post.
Nancy Wiuff, who made the quilt, came up with the idea of the quilt for Arlis after working on one for a West Bend veteran. Local residents contributed the money for the cost of the materials.
