Spring arrived this week but inside the balmy, new greenhouse at Gilmore City-Bradgate Elementary School, spring has been in place since the middle of November.
November is when the new greenhouse was completed on the school grounds, providing another boost for the school’s new gardening program, led by Seed-to-Table manager Kelsey Upah, who was hired by the district last summer.
Upah oversaw the creation of the new greenhouse and she has also taken over leadership of the outdoor garden, which the students utilize each week for classroom learning.
Already, some of the product planted three months ago is supplementing the school lunch program and helping stock the salad bar in the lunch room.
