Eight-year-old Wyatt Merz of Lakewood, CO, is crazy about his blue hair. Wyatt attended the Kiddie Cats Child Care and Learning Center kickoff event July 11, along with his grandparents, Bob and Jane Lee. Humboldt Independent photo.

Kiddie Cats Child Care and Learning Center in Dakota City found a shady spot for a fun evening, Tuesday, July 11. The local non-profit set up picnic tables, the Hy-Vee grill, inflatable bounce house and slide and other games for an evening meal and night of fun for supporters of the new Child Care and Learning Center. The group's mission is to provide quality child care in an environment that engages young minds through learning and play. Sande Construction and Supply Co. of Humboldt will be constructing the new 8,000 square foot center that is expected to serve approximately 110 children and their families in the area. The Kiddie Cats Child Care Board has received approval from the USDA for a loan to complete financing on the project. The Board is continuing fund-raising and is still seeking approximately $400,000 to cover construction of the building. Donation forms are available at Humboldt City Hall or online at www.kiddiecatschildcare.com. Read more about the project and see photos from the event in the July 20 Humboldt Independent.
