Humboldt falls to CPU in 1st round of state softball, 14-2

Humboldt's No. 4 seeded softball team couldn't come up with enough hits Monday night (July 17) in their first round Class 3A state tournament game against No. 5 seed Center Point-Urbana. CPU pounded the Wildcats for 16 hits en route to a 14-2 victory over Humboldt.

The loss sent Humboldt, 31-5, into a consolation round game against West Marshall on Wednesday, July 19, 10 a.m. at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge. CPU, 30-10, advanced into a semifinal round game against top-seeded Davenport Assumption (42-1) on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Avery Terwilliger, Mady Lange and Taylor Gidel each had one hit to account for the Humboldt offense. Freshman pitcher Ellie Jacobson took the loss from the throwing circle. She struck out six and walked four.
