The Humboldt softball team battled back from an opening round loss by winning two games in the consolation round on Wednesday to finish 5th in the Class 3A state tournament at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.

The Wildcats opened the day with a 6-3 victory over West Marshall and ended the season with an impressive, 10-0 victory over Sioux Center. Freshman pitcher Ellie Jacobson threw a no-hitter in the second game with eight strikeouts. Jacobson went 3-for-3 at the plate for Humboldt's 14-hit attack against Sioux Center. Kelsey Peters and Mady Lange both homered for the Wildcats with two runners on base to help blow the game wide open and end the contest after five innings via the 10-run rule.

Humboldt banged out 11 hits in their victor over West Marshall. Jacobson scattered five hits and struck out seven with no walks. Lange also homered in the contest.

The two victories on Wednesday give the Wildcats a 33-5 season record. The 33 victories set a new school record for wins in a season.
