Humboldt School Superintendent Greg Darling and elementary principal George Bruder have been scrambling to find new teachers in recent weeks, but in the big picture, that’s a nice problem to have.
During the regular monthly meeting of the Humboldt School Board Monday night (Aug. 21), Darling reported a surprising enrollment spike after registration day, which took place on Aug. 8.
“Enrollment in kindergarten and first grade is up dramatically,” Darling said. “We had 17 new students in kindergarten, and 15 new students in first grade. New students to the district.”
“The numbers appear to be up at the middle school, too, so we did some hiring to cover the increase in students,” Darling said. “We don’t like to hire people late in the game like this, but fortunately we were able to get some good hires."
