Lynx pull away from Humboldt, 28-7

The Humboldt football team showed signs of promise Friday night at home in a 28-7 loss to the Webster City Lynx in a season-opening non-district game played on Mason Maach Field.

The Wildcats scored the first touchdown of the game on a 25-yard pass from Jamison Heinz to Lucas Volf with 10:59 on the clock in the first quarter after Humboldt recovered a Lynx fumble at the Webster City 32 on the opening drive of the game.

Webster City added a touchdown early in the second quarter and scored two more times in the first half to take a 21-7 halftime lead.

Humboldt, now 0-1 on the season, returns to action at Hampton on Friday, Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Hampton-Dumont suffered a 38-26 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden Friday night.
