Hardpack 30 bike ride is September 23

Panoramic vistas of the Des Moines River and surrounding countryside are available on the Hardpack 30 bike ride Saturday, Sept. 23, from Rutland to Rolfe and back along the Three Rivers Trail. There is still time to sign up and the cost is $30 with proceeds going to trail improvements in Humboldt and Pocahontas counties. People can register at www.hardpack30.com.

The sixth annual Humboldt County Hardpack 30 bicycle ride on the Three Rivers Trail will be Saturday, Sept. 23, starting at 9:30 a.m. at Rutland. Riders will pedal from Rutland to Rolfe, a distance of about 13.5 miles. And then they’ll return to Rutland (27 miles round trip).
Entry fee is $30, which includes a long sleeved t-shirt designed by Hardpack 30 organizer Jake Zweibohmer. This year, the first 100 to register for the Hardpack 30 will receive custom designed Hardpack 30 bandanas, a $10 value, for free. There will also be some other giveaways included when people pick up their shirts before the ride.
Online registration is available this year at www.hardpack30.com, a website created by Bri Berte.
Profits from the ride go towards trail improvements. More than $7,000 has been raised and donated to Humboldt County Conservation and Pocahontas County Conservation over the first five rides.
The event is held rain or shine. The public is invited to take part in the festivities after the ride in Rutland starting at about noon on Sept. 23. There will be food and music in Rutland after the ride.
The halfway meeting point in Rolfe this year will be at the Rolfe Golf Club, where a fundraiser breakfast will be served by the Rolfe Rodeo and beverages will be available.
The Rolfe ambulance staff will be on hand at Rolfe for anyone who might need assistance.
Plans call for a hot meal available for a free will donation in Rutland at the end of the ride. The meal is provided by Kallie Davis and friends. A beer garden area will be open at Nut’s Landing in Rutland again this year.
