HHS girls 1st, boys 3rd in Ballard Invitational

The Humboldt girls’ cross country team claimed their fourth title of the season in four outings by winning the Carr Invitational at Ballard Huxley Monday night (Sept. 11).
Humboldt, led by overall winner Bryce Gidel (19:19), totaled 40 points to win the Class B team title. North Polk was five points behind at 45 and Gilbert was third with 69.
Humboldt’s boys placed third in Class B with 99 points. Gilbert claimed first with 52 and Nodaway Valley was runner-up at 58. Freshman Quinton Orr led the Wildcats with a sixth-place finish in 17:25.
The Wildcat girls also got a fourth-place finish from Gabby Kent (20:31) and a ninth-place finish by Lauren Erickson (21:36). Elizabeth Hildreth was 10th in 21:42.
Joe Kunert finished 11th in 17:45 for the Wildcat boys. Denny Pederson had the other top-20 finish for the Wildcats as he ran 18th in 18:10.
Humboldt will run at Clear Lake on Thursday, Sept. 14. The Humboldt Invitational will be on Monday, Sept. 18.
