A Humboldt Middle School student was killed and his father and another area woman seriously injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle accident east of Humboldt on Highway 3.
According to Iowa State Patrol Officer Neal Morenz, Humboldt County emergency personnel were summoned to Highway 3 for a two-vehicle, head-on collision at the top of the hill one mile east of Dakota City, near the intersection of Highway 3 and Ohio Avenue.
According to the report, a 2009 Buick Lacrosse CXL driven by Kevin P. Ahlstrom, 39, of Dakota City, was traveling westbound on Highway 3.
A 2007 Ford Edge driven by Trisha D. Luthro, 40, of Badger, was traveling eastbound on Highway 3, but was in the westbound lane. The vehicles collided, sending Ahlstrom’s Buick into the east lane/shoulder, facing northwest. The Luthro vehicle traveled onto the west shoulder, facing west.
A passenger in the Ahlstrom vehicle, Kevin’s 12-year-old son, Brady, a sixth grader at Humboldt Middle School, was killed on impact as a result of the crash with the front passenger side of Luthro’s Ford striking the front passenger side of the Buick.
Both Kevin Ahlstrom and Trisha Luthro were transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt and then transferred to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. Luthro is listed in serious condition. No condition status on Ahlstrom was available.
