Four students named to All-State music


Four Humboldt High School music students have attained the highest individual honor availa-ble to Iowa high school musi-cians by being selected as a member of the 2017 All-State Band and Chorus. The four stu-dents chosen, include (l to r): Isabella Luu (French Horn), Hope Hjelmeland (Cornet), Jared Knapp (Bass Trombone), and Sydney Burns (Alto).

Four Humboldt High School music students have attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as a member of the 2017 All-State Band and Chorus. Jared Knapp, Isabella Luu, and Hope Hjelmeland have been selected as members of the All-State Band. Sydney Burns has been selected as a member of the All-State Chorus.
Knapp plays bass trombone, Luu is on French horn and Hjelmeland plays cornet. Burns sings alto in the chorus.
Students auditioned for All-State at six locations in Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 21. Only 17 percent of those auditioning are selected.
The All-State Music Festival will be Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m., at Hilton Coliseum in Ames. The local students will be part of the prestigious 281-piece All-State Band and the 601-member All-State Chorus.
