Humboldt girls 7th in state cross country

Led by Bryce Gidel's fifth-place finish, the Humboldt girls' cross country team placed seventh in the Class 3A state championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge.

Gidel finished in 18:59 to lead the Wildcats, who totaled 199 points. Wahlert Dubuque won the team title with 72 points, followed by Pella with 104 and Decorah at 150. Dallas Center-Grimes (157), Charles City (177) and Bishop Heelan Catholic of Sioux City (184) finished ahead of the Wildcats in the 15-team field of schools.

Humboldt senior Gabby Kent ended her career by placing 17th in 19:27. Isabella Luu ran 69th in 20:37 and Lauren Erickson was 90th in 20:56. Elizabeth Hildreth was 109th in 21:21, Madeleine Ruzicka 119th in 21:38 and Kallie Nilles was 126th in 21:48.

Humboldt freshman Quinton Orr was the boys' lone entry at state on Saturday and Orr ran 23rd overall in 16:48.
