Six Humboldt youth compete in State Dance


These six Humboldt High School students will be competing this weekend in State Solo All Iowa Honor Dance Team competition in Newton. Six Humboldt High School students will be competing this weekend in the State Solo All Iowa Honor Dance team competition in Newton. Hundreds of youth will be competing in eight classes throughout the day on Saturday. The Dance Solo competition will follow the Color Guard Solo competition on Friday.
The Humboldt students will compete at the Newton High School gym No. 2. Here is a list of the students and their approximate dance times: Emma Clark, 2:37 p.m.; Elise Halvorson, 2:48 p.m.; Jaydn Smith, 5:59 p.m.; Whitney Kellner, 6:36 p.m.; Morgan Smith, 6:58 p.m.; and Lylah Tinken, 7:22 p.m. The team is coached by Jessica Fuller.
The event is put on by the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association, whose function is to encourage, promote and provide activities and opportunities for Iowa Drill Teams. There are also area students from Algona, Bishop Garrigan, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge and West Bend-Mallard competing in the individual competition. The State Team Championships will be Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Wells Fargo Arena/Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.
