Humboldt wrestlers 5th in NCC tournament

Led by Joey Busse's runner-up finish at 145 pounds, the Humboldt wrestling team placed fifth in the team scoring of the North Central Conference Tournament held Saturday, Jan. 20, inside the Humboldt gym.

The Wildcats finished with 126 team points. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows won the team crown with 247.5 points and Webster City was runner-up at 212.5. Clear Lake took third at 192 and Iowa Falls-Alden was fourth with 153. After Humboldt, Algona was sixth with 112, Hampton-Dumont had 61 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond finished with 34.

Busse was Humboldt's lone finalist. Placing third for the Wildcats was Justin Jones at 285, Brandon Johnson at 220 and Zach Kollmorgen at 132. Earning fourth was Cole Nelson at 106, Timmy Larson at 138 and Joel Osborn at 182. Zachary Packard was fifth at 113 and Levi Naeve fifth at 170. Sixth place went to Logan Moser at 160, Davion Goodell at 152 and Colby Clarken at 120. Jordan Jensen (126) and Hunter Egdorf (195) did not place in the top six.

Humboldt returns to action in a triangular at Ballard Huxley on Thursday, Jan. 25, which includes Perry. It is Humboldt's final meet of the regular season. The Wildcats will host a Class 2A Sectional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 3.
