Nebraska man charged with kidnapping

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Wright County Sheriff's Office and several other law enforcement agencies made an arrest early Tuesday morning of a Nebraska man on a charge of third degree kidnapping, a class C felony. The man is being held in the Humboldt County Jail.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 2:36 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received information of an alleged abduction of young woman from Fremont, NE.
The young woman had used social media to contact friends and family after the alleged abduction.
Deputies from Humboldt and Wright County were able to locate the woman at 503 McCurry St., in Renwick. The woman in question was able to escape the residence. She was taken to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by the Renwick Ambulance Service, where she was treated for undisclosed medical needs.
Arrested and charged with kidnapping in the third degree, a class C felony, was Valentin Velez, 36, of LaVista, NE. Velez is being held in the Humboldt County Jail at the present time. If convicted, a class C felony is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Assisting the HCSO in the investigation and apprehension of Velez was the Humboldt County Attorney Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement and the Renwick Ambulance Service.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
