Snow emergency ordinance in effect Saturday noon through Sunday at 7 a.m.


The city of Humboldt has issued a snow emergency ordinance for Saturday, Feb. 24 at noon to Sunday, Feb. 25 at 7 a.m. A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the entire north central Iowa area with 4-7 inches of blowing snow expected.

There will be no on-street parking except for Sumner Avenue from 4th Street to 8th Street. All vehicles should be removed from city residential streets by noon on Saturday, or face being ticketed for a civil penalty, or possibly towed. The snow emergency is being issued because of a winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service from Saturday morning through late Saturday night. According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm will move across the area beginning Saturday morning and into Saturday night. Patchy blowing snow is expected into the evening hours.
All of the area, including the towns of Humboldt, Gilmore City, Algona, Rolfe, Laurens, Pocahontas, Fort Dodge, Belmond, Manson, Eagle Grove and Clarion are under the watch.
The forecast is for 4-7 inches of snow with localized amounts of up to 8 inches. Significant reductions in visibility are possible, with slick and snow-covered roads. The combination could lead to hazardous travel conditions.
