Humboldt County will be getting a new bridge over the East Fork of the Des Moines River and work will start as early as later this week.
The bridge, 1.8 miles east of the intersection with Highway 169, will be officially closed to through traffic beginning Monday, March 19.
Demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge is expected to take seven months, with the new bridge open for traffic beginning in early November.
The project calls for replacing the existing 323-foot by 28-foot steel girder bridge with a 364-foot by 44-foot pretensioned, prestressed concrete beam bridge.
