Humboldt will open its 2018 high school football season at home on Friday, Aug. 24, against long-time area rival and non-district foe Algona.

The Wildcats learned of their schedule after the Iowa High School Athletic Association released the statewide list of schedules Wednesday morning, Mar. 21.

Humboldt, which will be led by first year coach Derrick Elman, will play five home games and four road games in 2018. After hosting Algona, Humboldt will travel to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Aug. 31 and visit Storm Lake on Sept. 7 before returning home to host Spencer on Sept. 14. The Wildcats will begin Class 3A district play at home against Boone on Sept. 21. The Wildcats visit Dallas Center-Grimes on Sept. 28 and Webster City on Oct. 5. Humboldt hosts Carroll (Oct. 12) and Perry (Oct. 19) in its final two games of the regular season. The schedule will be reversed for the 2019 season where Humboldt will play four home games and five road games. All nine games will count for post-season playoff participation as the state will implement an RPI Index formula for the first time.
