Humboldt man seriously injured in accident

A Humboldt businessman is recovering from injuries incurred in a serious head-on collision on Highway 20 near mile 91 on Highway 20, near the Calhoun County town of Lytton.
Tony R. Christensen, 53, of Humboldt was traveling westbound on Highway 20 in a 2017 GMC Yukon about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28.
A eastbound 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Deja K. deRubio, 37, of Albion, was also in the westbound lane of Highway 20 when the two vehicles collided.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, deRubio’s vehicle struck the front of Christensen’s, with both vehicles coming to rest in the median. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
deRubio was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Tony R. Christensen was life flighted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines where he remains a patient.
Three other passengers, Tony’s wife and son, Allison and Aiden Christensen, and Aiden’s friend, Cade Witzke of Dakota City, were treated for injuries at the UnityPoint - Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, and were released.
