Humboldt man killed in vehicle/pedestrian accident

A Humboldt man was killed when crossing Highway 169 (13th Street South) late Sunday night, after being struck by a late model Jeep.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Olaf Hans Engman, 61, of Humboldt, quickly entered the roadway and crossed the northbound lanes of traffic on Highway 169 from a snow-covered used car lot.
The accident occurred at 11:01 p.m. on Sunday, April 8. There was moderate to heavy snowfall at the time of the accident. It occurred near the intersection with 4th Avenue North.
According to the report from Patrolman Neil Morenz, a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Celeste Reilly, 54, of Humboldt, was southbound in the inside lane of Highway 169.
The front passenger side corner of the Jeep struck Engman, throwing him to the side of the roadway and into the snow-covered parking on the east side of Highway 169.
