Golf teams win season openers
HHS girls win golf opener
Making their first outing on a golf course in 2018, the Humboldt varsity girls’ golf team finally opened their season by topping Hampton-Dumont and Algona on April 20 in Ames.
The Wildcats finished with 222 strokes on the back nine at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. Algona shot 227 and Hampton-Dumont totaled 231.
Humboldt senior Maggie Bennett led the way by shooting a 49 to earn medalist honors. Kelly Boleyn shot a 53, Kenzie McCartan 59 and Frances Carlson added a 61.
Wildcats boys in 33-shot golf victory
The golf season finally began for the Humboldt High boys last week, and the Wildcats made the best of it by posting a 33-shot victory.
Playing in a meet at Coldwater Links in Ames on April 19, Humboldt totaled 183 shots to outdistance Algona (216) and Hampton-Dumont (236).
Humboldt’s Jamison Heinz shot a 41 on the par 36 course to earn medalist honors. Hudson Gargano and Jacob Thurm each shot 47 and Jack Arndt added a 48.
The Wildcats will golf at Clarion on Friday, April 27, and compete in the Storm Lake tournament on Saturday, April 27. They’ll be at Webster City on Tuesday, May 1.
