The No. 4 ranked Humboldt softball team moved within one game of the state tournament by stopping Hampton-Dumont, 8-1 Friday night (July 6) in Humboldt in a Class 3A Region 2 semifinal round game. The Wildcats, 29-3 on the year, got two homers from Jori Hajek to lead a balanced attack which included strong pitching and defense. Humboldt will now host Algona on Monday, July 9, 7 p.m. in a region 2 championship game. Algona advanced with a 15-11 victory over Clear Lake.

Humboldt opened post-season tournament play in impressive fashion Tuesday night (July 3) by blasting Pocahontas Area, 11-1 in five innings. Humboldt pitcher Ellie Jacobson pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12 Indian batters to lead Humboldt, which also collected 14 hits in the contest.
