Humboldt baseball team into substate final, 5-3 over Lynx

The Humboldt High baseball team moved within one game of the state tournament after they defeated Webster City, 5-3 in a Class 3A District Championship played at Webster City on July 16. The victory moved Humboldt into a substate final against Boone on Wednesday, July 18 in Boone. Boone advanced with a 2-0 victory over Gilbert.

HUMBOLDT HOLDS OFF CLEAR LAKE IN DISTRICT OPENER, 5-2
Humboldt totaled 10 hits and backed Jacob Thurm's pitching with strong defense en route to a 5-2 victory over the Clear Lake Lions Friday night (July 13) in a Class 3A first round district baseball game in Webster City.

The victory sent Humboldt into a district final on Monday, July 16 against Webster City at 7 p.m. in Webster City. Webster City advanced by topping Perry, 9-4 in the second game Friday night in Webster City.

Humboldt, now 18-14 overall on the summer, got six solid innings from Jacob Thurm, who scattered six hits, struck out six and walked four. Cade Witzke threw the final inning in relief. Isaac Thurm, Owen Newton, Reese DeWinter and Sawyer Savery each had two hits to lead Humboldt's batting attack.
