The Humboldt softball team moved into the Class 3A state semifinals Monday night by posting an impressive, 3-0 shutout victory over Atlantic in a first round state tournament game at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.

The Wildcats totaled eight hits and held the Trojans (30-6), one of the top-hitting 3A teams in the state, to just two hits, using solid defense to back the pitching of Ellie Jacobson. Carlie Thompson, Jori Hajek and Mady Lange each had two hits for the Wildcats. Jacobson struck out and walked three.

Humboldt will now face No. 1 seed and defending state champion Davenport Assumption, a 14-4 winner over Benton Community in the other first round game Monday night in 3A.
