Boone upends Humboldt in substate baseball, 5-0

The Humboldt baseball team's hopes of reaching the state tournament for the second time in three years fell short Wednesday night (July 18) as the Wildcats were upended by the Boone Toreadors, 5-0 in Boone in a Class 3A substate final. Boone improved to 24-9 while Humboldt's season ends at 19-15 overall.

Humboldt collected just two hits in the game as Reese DeWinter and Michael Brightly each had a hit for Humboldt. Sophomore pitcher Jacob Thurm took the loss for Humboldt. He scattered seven hits and struck out two, walked one and hit two batters in six innings of work.
