Humboldt falls to top-ranked Assumption in state semifinals, 9-1

Top-ranked and defending state champion Davenport Assumption pounded out 12 hits and limited Humboldt to just one hit en route to a 9-1 victory over the Wildcats in the semifinals of the Class 3A state softball tournament on Wednesday afternoon (July 18) at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.

The victory moved Assumption into the finals on Friday against Roland-Story. Roland-Story defeated Albia, 4-0 in the other semifinal round game. Humboldt and Albia will meet in the third-place game on Friday, 2:30 p.m. on Diamond 2 at Rogers Park.

Humboldt's only hit in the game was a single by Kendal Clark in the second inning, when Humboldt scored its only run when Ellie Jacobson drew a walk and Alexis Hansen, running for Jacobson, scored on Clark's hit to left field. Jacobson took the loss pitching for the Wildcats. She struck out four and walked two.
