The Humboldt High softball team capped the best finish in school history on Friday afternoon (July 20) by holding off No. 2 seeded Albia, 5-4 in six innings in the consolation final at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge in the Class 3A State Softball Tournament.

Humboldt finishes with a mark of 32-4 while Albia ends at 32-6. Humboldt dominated most of the game and took a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning where Albia scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within one run of Humboldt. The game ended at that point due to the 90-minute time limit for state consolation games, one inning shy of going the distance.

Humboldt totaled five hits in the game as Kendal Clark went 2-for-3 at bat with two RBI to power Humboldt. Wildcat sophomore pitcher Ellie Jacobson earned the win from the circle as she scattered six hits, walked five and struck out four against Albia, a team which finished runner-up a head ago at state. Jacobson and teammate Mady Lange were later named to the 3A all-tournament team. Davenport Assumption edged Roland-Story, 4-2 in the 3A championship game.
