Thomas paying his dues at Iowa

You could say Humboldt’s Drew Thomas is starting his college football career at ground zero.
Thomas, a 2017 Humboldt High School graduate and a sophomore at the University of Iowa, is set to begin his second year as a member of the Hawkeye football team.
But nothing has come easy for Thomas, who set all kinds of passing records at Humboldt High School. He joined the Hawkeyes last August as a regular walk-on, the most difficult path to start out on a Division I-A program. On top of that, he is trying to learn a new position at wide receiver.
“You come in on the first day of school as a regular walk-on. You are the lowest man on the totem pole,” Thomas said.
“You have to keep your head down, find your role on the team and work hard, keep your mouth shut and try to earn some respect from your teammates and coaches and try to let them know that by hard work you want to be there and are serious about the program,” Thomas said.
