Humboldt runners sweep team titles at Iowa Falls

Humboldt's cross country team opened its season with an impressive performance by sweeping the team titles in the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational on Aug. 23.

The Humboldt girls scored 45 points to take top honors. Mason City Newman was runner-up at 66. The Humboldt boys scored 31 points to outdistance runner-up Newman, which had 50.

Bryce Gidel of Humboldt was the overall winner in the girls race with a time of 19:30. She was 17 seconds ahead of runner-up Aubrie Fisher of IFA at 19:47. Elizabeth Hildreth of Humboldt was seventh overall in 22:25 and Lauren Erickson was eighth in 22:58.

Quinton Orr of Humboldt was the overall winner in the boys race with a time of 17:10. Joe Kunert was fourth in 18:00 and Devon Coon ran seventh in 18:18. Eric Wittrock was eighth in 18:18.

The Wildcats will return to action in the Mason City Newman Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 30. The meet replaces the Webster City Invitational on Tuesday, Aug. 28, that was rained out and not rescheduled. Humboldt will also compete in the Estherville Invitational on Sept. 4.
