Humboldt boys 1st, girls 2nd at MC Newman

Humboldt's varsity boys claimed first-place and the Wildcat girls were second in the Mason City Newman Catholic Cross Country meet held on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Mason City.

The Humboldt boys totaled 44 points to finish ahead of runner-up Newman, which had 94. Quinton Orr was second overall to pace the Humboldt boys with a time of 16:09. Joe Kunert, Devon Coon, Eric Wittorck and Noah Helmer all ran in the 17:00 range for the Wildcats.

Humboldt's girls were edged by Crestwood for the team crown. Crestwood scored 56 while Humboldt followed at 83. Bryce Gidel of Humboldt was the overall winner in 18:05. Isabella Luu was 17th in 21:33 and Lauren Erickson 18th in 21:33 to lead Humboldt. Kallie Nilles ran 22nd in 21:44.
