Humboldt girls, boys win CC titles at Clear Lake

Humboldt's varsity cross country teams made it a sweep of the team titles in the Clear Lake Invitational held on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The Humboldt girls, led by overall winner Bryce Gidel, finished first with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Newman Catholic of Mason City with 89. Gidel (19:34) was backed by Isabella Luu, who was 11th in 23:02.

The Humboldt boys, led by overall winner Quinton Orr, finished first with 73 team points. Roland-Story was runner-up with 73, edged out by Humboldt via the tie-breaker. Orr (16:59) was backed by Joe Kunert, who was fifth overall in 17:49.

Quinton Orr paced the Humboldt boys with a runner-up finish individually, clocking a time of 16:50. Joe Kunert was ninth in 17;42 and Devon Coon was 15th in 18:15. Eric Wittrock was 17th in 18:22.

Bryce Gidel was first to pace the Humboldt girls. Her time was 19:19. Isabella Luu ran 27th in 22:29. Kirsty Beaman was 40th in 23:15 and Madeleine Ruzicka was 41st in 23:21.

Humboldt will run in the Clear Lake Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 13. The Humboldt Invitational will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, at lower Sheldon Park.
