Humboldt High junior distance standout Bryce Gidel earned her third straight trip to the Class 3A state cross country meet by winning the individual title in a state-qualifying meet at Spencer on Oct. 18. Fidel finished first in 19:13. She was nine seconds ahead of Ballard's Ellie Twedt who finished second in 19:22. Gidel, who was fifth in last year's state meet, has not lost a regular season race during her Wildcat career!

The Humboldt girls came up short in their bid to advance to state as a team by finishing sixth. Ballard Huxley, Bishop Heelan and Spencer secured the top three finishes to advance to the state meet, to be held Oct. 27 at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge. Wildcat senior Isabella Luu ran 34th in 22:14 and Elizabeth Hildreth was 35th in 22:18. Kirstyn Beaman was 39th, Kallie Nilles 43rd, Brett Harklau 58th and Madeleine Ruzicka 59th to round out the Wildcat placings.
