BREAKING NEWS: Boil order for Dakota City is lifted

A boil order has been issued for the city of Dakota City until further notice. Any water used for drinking by humans or pets, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food should be boiled first to kill any bacteria and other organisms. Equipment failure at the city's water treatment plant caused chlorine content to fall below recommended levels.

A boil advisory that had been issued by the City of Dakota City and the Iowa DNR has been lifted, effective immediately, it was reported Tuesday morning, Dec. 18. Due to equipment failure, the chlorine used for disinfection had fallen below the recommended levels. The equipment was replaced and the system flushed and tested. The order was issued late Wednesday morning, Dec. 12.
It is now safe to drink the water from the faucet, use it for cooking and all other purposes.
