With a Board of Directors in place, a certified non-profit designation on the way and contact made with a broker to line up first-run and recently released features to show, the volunteers comprising the Humota Movie Group are ready to take over the Humota Movie Theatre, perhaps as early as some time next month.
The Humota Movie Group is the official name given to a group of local volunteers who want to see the theatre remain operating and a viable and profitable entertainment venue for many years to come.
In early October, a public election was held to select five members of the community to sit on the Board of Directors. Elected were Chad Theesfeld, Jeff Knutson, Sherry Bulten, Bill Jorgensen and Susan Rutz. Following initial meetings, four other Board members were appointed, Stacey Origer, Tom Tierney, Missy Weeks and Bob Myott. There remains one opening on the Board, in case there is a person in the community with a strong passion about the theatre and seeing the motion picture business continue as an entertainment outlet in the community.
“We see wonderful things on the horizon and the board members are very excited to make The Humota even more involved with the community. We want to provide avenues to be able to rent out the theatre for group events,” Theesfeld said.
