Animal shelter group seeks board volunteers

Local citizens interested in raising funds for an animal shelter for the county met last week and are planning for another meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. at Humboldt City Hall. County citizens interested in serving on the Board of Directors, or interested in helping fundraise for the shelter, are invited to attend. Read more about it in this week's Humboldt Independent.

About a dozen concerned citizens met at Humboldt City Hall on Thursday, Jan. 10, with a goal of building an animal shelter in Humboldt County.
The group has organized a 501c(3) non-profit to administer and advise Humboldt County Animal Control Officer Merri Hansen on the operation of the shelter.
A bank account for the Humboldt County Animal Shelter has been established at Bank Iowa in Humboldt for the purpose of accepting tax-deductible donations toward the construction of a building.
People at the meeting last week interested in serving on the Board were Pat Hill of Humboldt, Jess Tepner of Bode, Frank Hacker of Ottosen, Larry Plagmann of Humboldt, Kathy Petersen of Hardy, Julie Kruger of Hardy, and Drs. Erin Kramer and Aubrey Cordray, representing the Harmony Animal Hospital and Humboldt Veterinary Clinic, respectively. Supervisors Rick Pedersen and Dave Lee were also in attendance and will sit on the board. Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger ran the meeting.
The board is seeking other members in the county who are interested in animal welfare, to step forward and become involved.
Organizers are particularly interested in finding representatives from communities that were not represented at the Jan. 10 meeting, like Renwick, Thor, Livermore, Dakota City, LuVerne, Rutland, Pioneer and Gilmore City.
The group agreed to meet again on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Humboldt City Hall. People interested in serving are invited to attend. Questions may be directed to Sheriff Kruger at (515) 332-2471.
