Humboldt wrestlers 2nd in 2A sectional, advance 8 to districts

The Humboldt wrestling team finished second in the team scoring and advanced eight on to district competition after hosting a Class 2A Sectional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The Wildcats finished with 208 team points to finish behind first-place Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at 227.5. Southeast Valley was third at 161, Algona fourth with 160, Iowa Falls-Alden fifth with 141 and Pocahontas Area was sixth at 88.

Humboldt's first and second-place finishers earned spots in the district meet at Clear Lake on Feb. 9. Joey Busse at 145 pounds, Joel Osborn at 195 and Cresten Craven at 120 were sectional champs. Humboldt's runner-up finishers on the day include Justin Jones at 285, Levi Naeve at 160, Jordan Jensen at 132, Colby Clarken at 126 and Cole Nelson at 103.

Humboldt also earned a spot in the regional dual team tournament. Humboldt has been assigned to the regional at Atlantic, where they will face Carlisle. Prairie City-Monroe will meet Harlan in the other match with the winners to meet afterwards to determine a berth in the state dual team tournament in Des Moines on Feb. 13.
