No one has identified the sound of heartbreak, but it certainly was in the air Monday afternoon in the Humboldt County District courtroom in Dakota City.
One-by-one, loved ones of 12-year-old Brady Ahlstrom came to the witness stand, and that’s what they did, witnessed their love and regretted their loss.
Ahlstrom was the victim of a fatal traffic accident on the night of Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, east of Humboldt on Highway 3.
The driver of a 2007 Ford Edge, Trisha Dawn Luthro, 41, of Badger, was over four times the legal limit for intoxication. Her Ford sport utility vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the highway entering the crest of a hill, striking a 2009 Buick Lacrosse CXL driven by Kevin Ahlstrom of Dakota City, Brady’s father.
On Monday, Luthro was sentenced to 25 years in prison. She'll be required to serve a minimum of 70 percent of her sentence.
