HHS to present Robin Hood

Sunbeams reach through the trees of Sherwood Forest and we only hope they will bring more pleasant weather as the spring play will soon be presented on March 22 and 23. Students this year will be bringing the classic tale of Robin Hood to the stage. Auditions were held Jan. 10 and 14, with an enthusiastic group. The production will feature nine seniors, 17 juniors, 12 sophomores, and four freshman working alongside a dedicated student crew.
This dramatic comedy by Larry Blamire is sure to be an enjoyable show for all ages. The playwright has combined all the folklore of Robin Hood into a hilarious, action-packed drama. The show opens with Robin Hood (Sawyer Savery) and Will Gamwell (Donovan Froisland) making their way through the forest. They come upon a fair maiden, Marian Harper (Madeleine Ruzicka), who they plan on rescuing. In this encounter, they are met by the chief of the King’s Foresters, Riccon (Aaron Diesburg), whose stern demeanor wants them to be captured and taken to the kingdom. Riccon is assisted by a team of Foresters played by Tia Woeste, Luke Sievers, Josh Larrabee, Tristyn Fuller, and Amanda Fulwider.
In the other setting of the play, we are taken to the great hall of Nottingham Castle and meet the antagonists of the show. The Sheriff of Nottingham (Braden Sandven) is in a restless mood pacing through the room as the Bishop of Hereford (Carter Holm) is extremely laid back giving the Sheriff all the wonderful words of wisdom he has to offer. The ever-prompt Hilton (Josephine Harvey) is the direct assistant to the Sheriff and announces the arrival of King John (Logan Kehoe). This corrupt group is concerned over the taxes of the common people and making sure that they are collecting their income.
Robin Hood is traveling through the forest and meets Little John (Jacob Halvorson). They become alliances in the battle over the harsh tyranny that is trying to rule the land. Their journey takes them to the Blue Boar Inn where we meet the rest of the merry band of Robin Hood carrying on festivities including the minstrel Alan-A-Dale (Carlos Jimenez), his fiancé Ellen Dierwold (Holly Kirchhoff), hostess of the inn Catherine (Kosett Burmeister), innkeeper Eadom (Sam Mooney), local tanner Arthur-A-Bland (Jacob Larrabee), witty Meg Scathelocke (Hailey Box), and the miller Much (Cameron Beach). Robin Hood’s band is joined by others who will take on the crusade against the Sheriff and the King. Merry people and musi-cians include Rachel Copper, Teisha Sritharan, Maddy Dahl, Emie Wolter, Katie Wilhelm, Molly Wittrock, Leah Johnson, Aneisha Sritharan, Zayne Smith, Emma Clark, Lauren Erickson, Gracie Vitzthum, Abby Crowley, Alexa Hemmelrick, Cassondra Ruzicka, Michelle Cox, Grace Minor, and Jada Vitzthum.
Back at the Royal Palace, Queen Eleanor (Kelly Skow) is met by her son King John as they dispute over the individual ideas of ruling the kingdom. Eleanor tries to turn her son in a new direction. One of the characters, the Prioress of Kirklees (Sydney Savery), has her foot in both worlds as she takes the collec-tions from her cousin Robin Hood to the priory and also lives in the kingdom. With the Sheriff and Bishop trying to take care of their Robin Hood problem, they hire Guy of Gisbourne (Carter Theesfeld) to eliminate the threat to their corrupt tyranny. One of the last characters to join Robin Hood’s Band is Friar Tuck (Sam Sexe). He is quite the holy man, deploying his own means to collect for his survival. Robin Hood and Friar join forces in the plot against the Sheriff.
All of the students have been working extremely hard in be-tween all the snow days and other activities that they are also in-volved in. Final performances are set for Friday, March 22 and Sat-urday, March 23, in the R. Wesley Carlson auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in the school office or you can simply purchase the night of the show. Adults $7 and Students $5. All seats are general admission with no assigned seating.
