Humboldt boys claim indoor track opener


It was an exciting photo finish when Humboldt's Matt Miller burst past an Algona runner on the final lap to give the Wildcats the victory in the final event of the evening, the 4x400 relay. Humboldt won five events and claimed the team title of the boys' first annual Nielsen Family Indoor Track meet held Friday night (Mar. 15).

The Wildcats finished with 133.5 points. Pocahontas Area was second with 99 while Webster City was third at 86. Algona finished fourth with 66, Eagle Grove was fifth with 30 and Boone scored 5.5.

Humboldt's first-place finishes came from Justin Jones in the shot put, Quinton Orr in the 3,200 meters, Jamison Heinz in the 60-meters, the shuttle hurdle relay and the 4x400-meter relay. Humboldt's Matt Miller passed two runners on the final lap in the 4x400 for a thrilling finish to end the meet.

Next action for Humboldt will be a coed indoor meet on Mar. 21, starting at 4:30 p.m.
