Humboldt police officer under investigation; resigns

Humboldt Police Officer Brad Thiele has submitted his resignation. Thiele is on paid administrative leave while being investigated by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation for alleged criminal activity.

Brad Thiele, a Humboldt police officer who is under investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for allegation of domestic abuse assault, has resigned.
A letter of resignation was received Tuesday afternoon, Humboldt City Administrator Travis Goedken reported.
Brad Thiele has been an officer with the Humboldt Police Department for over seven years. Goedken reported that Thiele was placed on paid administrative leave on Saturday, March 16, after allegation of the assault arose. The matter was turned over to the DCI to avoid any conflict of interest.
No charges in the matter have yet been filed with the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office.
Thiele will remain on administrative leave until his service with the department ends in two weeks. Thiele will be owed any unused vacation and compensation time.
With Thiele’s departure, the Humboldt Police Department is short two officers. “We will get by,” Police Administrator Dean Kruger reported Monday.
