Humboldt girls advance 7 events to state track

Humboldt will send seven events into this week's Class 3A state track and field championships in Des Moines.

Humboldt's varsity girls' track team earned four automatic berths and placed third as a team in a qualifying meet in Carroll on May 10.

The top two finishes in each event along with the next-best statewide advance to the state championships on May 16-18 in Des Moines. The Wildcats' Kendal Clark won the discus with a school record throw of 132-7 to advance to state. Bryce Gidel was second in the 3,000-meters and Carlie Thompson ran second in the 100-meter dash. Humboldt was also second in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Wildcats also qualified the distance medley relay, Lily Groat in the 400-meter hurdles and Paige DeWinter in the 200-meter dash.

Humboldt also totaled 104 points to finish third in the team scoring at Carroll. Defending state champ Glenwood was first at 182 with Atlantic second at 108.
