Humboldt won the team title and will advance 13 events to the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships this week in Des Moines. Humboldt earned 10 automatic state meet berths in a Class 3A qualifying meet in Carroll on May 10.

The top two finishes in each event and the next-best statewide will round out the field of 24 for the state meet, to be held May 16-18 in Des Moines. Humboldt had five first-place finishes and five second-place finishes, with the rest of their entries earning at-large berths based on their performances.

The Wildcats finished with 157 team points to surpass runner-up Atlantic, which had 143.

Humboldt's first-place finishes include the sprint medley relay, Quinton Orr in the 3,200-meters, the shuttle hurdle relay, Joey Busse in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 4x100 relay. The Wildcats got second-place finishes from Orr in the 1,600, Justin Jones in the discus, Jones in the shot put, Jamison Heinz in the 200-meters, the 4x800 relay and Matt Miller in the 400-meters.
