The city administration broached a subject for the Humboldt City Council to discuss at its meeting this past Monday, possibly changing hours at Humboldt City Hall.
“Once in a while people will complain about the hours of operation at City Hall. People who work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or work out of town, ask when they are supposed to do business at City Hall,” Humboldt City Administrator Travis Goedken said.
He asked the Council what they would think about having City Hall open four nine-hour days and one four-hour day, to comprise the 40-hour work week.
He said a Monday-Thursday schedule of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. could give people more access to City Hall. He proposed a 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. opening on Fridays.
“We don’t do utility shutoffs on Friday and most businesses would say that Friday afternoons are probably their least productive office time of the week,” Goedken said.
“The streets and sanitation workers start their day at 6 a.m. and the park department starts at 6:30 a.m., so having people come in earlier would more closely align with the hours of other city staff,” Goedken said.
City Clerk Gloria Christensen said office staff would be willing to come in earlier in order to get off Friday afternoons.
The Council has no immediate plans to act on the matter. Read more about this matter and other issues in this week's Humboldt Independent. Subscribe by clicking on the link above.
