Humboldt girls golf team 2nd in state tournament

The Humboldt girls golf team shot a sizzling 342 on the second day of the Class 3A state tournament on Wednesday (May 29) and finished strong to place runner-up in the team scoring.

The Wildcats finished with 701 strokes to finish behind champion Dubuque Wahlert at 653. Third place Cedar Rapids Xavier was 19 strokes back with 720.

Humboldt, which shot 359 in the first round, clipped the school record of 343 set in 1985 by Marv Buhr’s squad that won the 2A title that year.

Freshman Nora Carlson led Humboldt with a 36-hole total of 160. Frances Carlson shot 177 while Kelly Boleyn and Kenzie McCartan each had 182.
