Humboldt will host softball regional starting July 10

Humboldt's Carlie Thompson drives the ball for a line drive base hit in a recent Wildcat home softball game. The Wildcats will be at home to begin post-season play when they host Sheldon on July 10 at 7 p.m.

The road to the state tournament begins next week (July 10) as the Humboldt High softball team will host a Class 3A Region 2 tournament game.
The Wildcats will play Sheldon in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Algona and Estherville-Lincoln Central meet in the 5:30 p.m. contest. The winners will play in a semifinal round game in Humboldt on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m.
The other half of Region 2 has Spirit Lake hosting Okoboji and George-Little Rock playing Boyden Hull/Rock Valley in Spirit Lake. The semifinal round game will be played July 12 in Spirit Lake.
The Region 2 championship game will be played on July 15. The remaining team with the highest ranking will be the host school. The state tournament will be held July 22-26 in Fort Dodge.
Humboldt placed third at state last year after placing fifth in 2017.
“We are fortunate we get to host a regional tournament based on the seeding process. The last three or four years we have been fortunate enough to host and take advantage of it and play in our own familiar ballpark,” Van Pelt said.
“It still comes down to being ready to go and be focused. Hopefully the season has prepared us for that we will come out and play Humboldt softball,” Van Pelt said.
