Humboldt softball team clinches North Central Conference title!

Carlie Thompson hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Humboldt softball team to a dramatic, 1-0 victory over the Webster City Lynx Friday night (July 5) in Humboldt to clinch at least a share of the North Central Conference championship.

Humboldt can win the NCC outright by beating Clear Lake on Monday, July 8 in their final game of the regular season. The Lions gave Humboldt its only league loss back in mid-June.

Ellie Jacobson limited the Lynx to just two hits and struck out 13 batters in what shaped up to be similar to many battles between the Lynx and the Wildcats in years past with outstanding pitching and game-saving plays on defense. Carlie Thompson, Addie Thompson and Kyah Arnold each had a hit for Humboldt, which loaded the bases with one out in the eighth to set up Carlie's game-winning hit.

Humboldt, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, improved to 25-2 overall, 12-1 in the North Central Conference.
