Humboldt baseball team falls to Webster City in district opener, 5-4

Webster City scored three runs in the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh to rally past Humboldt, 5-4 in a Class 3A first round district tournament game at Slater on Friday night (July 19).

The loss ended Humboldt's season with an overall record of 21-12. Webster City improved t 20-9. They'll return to Slater on Monday night to face Ballard Huxley or Perry in a district semifinal.

Caden Matson made 2 hits to lead Humboldt's six-hit batting attack. Joey Busse hit a 2-run double. Humboldt pitcher Jacob Thurm threw all seven innings scattering 11 hits, walking one and striking out five.

The team will be honored at their season-ending banquet on Sunday, 6:30 p.m. at the high school.
