Second-team picks for Humboldt include senior outfielder Michael Brightly, senior outfielder Hudson Gargano and sophomore utility player Cade Witzke, who played infield, pitcher and outfield. Senior leftfielder Sawyer Savery was a third-team pick for Humboldt.
Newton was also a first-team all-district pick at first base in Class 3A. Busse was chosen as a first-team all-district player at utility. Jacob Thurm was a second-team all-district pick at utility and Brightly was a second-team all-district outfield selection.
The Wildcats were in the running for the league championship right up until the final game of the regular season to finish 11-3 in the NCC, runner-up to conference foe Webster City (12-2).
Humboldt finished 21-12 overall, bowing 5-4 to Webster City in the first round of the Class 3A district tournament to end their season.
