Humboldt Superintendent of Schools Greg Darling said the district is ready for the new school year, which begins this Friday, Aug. 23.
“Registration day went good. We are still doing some tweaks to the process. We had about the same turnout as we’ve had before with 75 to 80 percent of the people showing up at that time, Darling said.
“As far as enrollment numbers, all I can say right now at this time is that it is about the same as last year. I haven’t seen any big increases and I haven’t seen any big decreases at this point in any particular grade,” Darling said. “It is about what we anticipated coming in. We’ll know more in a few months when we have to certify our enrollment.”
“The rooms have been painted and cleaned. Some outside landscaping has been done. The custodial staff has done a good job considering they have been short-staffed all summer,” Darling said. “Some of the staff have been on vacation and some have had surgeries and health concerns.”
“The new baseball diamond lights are up. They are not hooked up yet but they are in place. It was amazing to watch them bring their boom in and remove the old poles and install the new lights,” Darling said.
Board member Kyle Kluender asked about the plans to remove the old light poles. Darling said anyone wishing to come in and haul them away can have them on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“We hope to have them out of there before the first football game,” Darling said. “Anyone who wants them can have them.”
“The high school addition is finished and we can now utilize the restrooms and the building is also being used by the music department,” Darling said.
